Meal Replacement Powders, or Drink Mixes,
are best suited for individuals
who either don't have have time to prepare complete healthy meals, do not
like many of the foods that are naturally high in good quality protein,
or simply enjoy the convenience of a quick meal.
We carry many of the most popular meal replacement powders. Choose the one
best for you by comparing their taste, features and price.
Many of the
powders are low in fat and high in protein and therefore are sometimes
referred to as protein shakes. Others contain a balanced ratio of
protein, carbohydrates, and fat. They usually contain a complete profile
of vitamin and minerals and other important nutrients especially important
for bodybuilders, athletes and dieters.
NETRITION
TIP: If you are following a Zone Diet,
Isocaloric, or Balanced diet, but prefer the low-fat meal replacement powders,
we suggest adding some fresh or frozen fruit and a tablespoon of
flaxseed oil or macadamia nut oil
to your shake to bring it to the 40/30/30 ratio
of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. A great idea is to interchange using
the two oils or add some of each in order to balance your diet with these
excellent sources of fat. Flaxseed oil is rich in the omega-3 polyunsaturated
oil, alpha-linolenic acid, which is an
essential
fatty acid. Macadamia
nut oil is about 80% monounsaturated and adds a nutty flavor to your
shake. Olive oil is normally recommended as a highly monounsaturated oil,
yet it is about 74% monounsaturated, lower than macadamia nut oil and not
as tasty in a chocolate (or other flavored) shake.
NETRITION
TIP: If you prefer your meal replacement shakes to be thick
and ice cold, we suggest that you keep a container of cold water in the
refrigerator to be used with your shakes and add ice cubes in place of
some of the water or milk or add frozen strawberries, blueberries or other
frozen fruit to the shake. Another option to thicken your meal replacement shakes
is to add some instant pudding mix to the shake. You may be able to find
a sugar-free version if you are concerned about the extra calories.
