Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter is an all-natural vegetable fat derived from cocoa beans. Also called Theobroma oil, Cocoa Butter is one of the most stable fats known and has a very mild chocolate flavor and aroma. NOW Cocoa butter is 100% pure, so it can be used in baking or as a cosmetic.

Christopher Columbus is believed to have brought the first cocoa beans back to Europe as part of the treasures of the New World.

Cocoa butter is the ivory-colored natural fat of the cocoa bean extracted during the manufacturing process of producing chocolate and cocoa powder.

It has a very subtle mellow flavor that gives chocolate its creamy smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.  Cocoa butter is solid at room temperature but it has a low melting point - just below body temperature.

The quality of a chocolate depends on the amount of cocoa butter added during processing.  The reason a piece of good chocolate melts immediately when eaten is because the melting point of cocoa butter is the same as our internal body temperature.  Inferior brands of chocolate use vegetable shortenings instead of cocoa butter.

Cocoa butter is the base of white chocolate along with milk solids, sugar (or a sugar-free sweetener such as maltitol or polydextrose and sucralose), vanilla and lecithin.

Store cocoa butter in an airtight container and it will keep several years in the refrigerator.

To use it it must be melted each time. I wish I had read the description more thoroughly. I am using it to coat my hair before swimming in a chlorinated pool under a swim cap to prevent pool head and damage. It works well for that but it's a pain to melt each time before I go out. They also have a product mixed with oil that is spreadable that you don't have to melt to use like I do. I will order that once I'm finished with my 3 containers.
