August 03, 2011 Reviewer: Doreen in California I have been using L-Lysine for some time to prevent fever blisters (cold sores) and it has always been effective. The last one pound bottle I bought did not seem to have the usual amount of the amino acid in the powder. I increased the amount I took after the first outbreak of fever blisters. Even after doing that I suffered with two more outbreaks of cold sores. The disappointing thing about this incident is that I contacted NOW by email and they did not even reply.
