L-Tryptophan

Tryptophan is one of the 20 amino acids needed by the body for normal function. It is a precursor to serotonin (a brain neurotransmitter), melatonin (a hormone) and niacin (vitamin B-3).  While tryptophan is perhaps most commonly associated with turkey, other foods that contain plentiful amounts of tryptophan include chocolate, oats, bananas, dried dates, milk, cottage cheese, meat, fish, and peanuts.
