SAN's stabilized Na-R-ALA contains the worlds first form of Na-R-ALA, the sodium salt of R-Lipoic Acid (RLA). Unlike ordinary R-ALA, SAN's Na-R-ALA is a stabilized form of R-ALA that won't polymerize (degrade) at high temperatures. Na-R-ALA is fully water soluble and hence completely absorbed by the intestinal tract.

New scientific medical research demonstrated that the powerful antioxidant effects of the 'R' isomer of lipoic acid are far more valuable than its synthetic cousin ALA (alpha lipoic acid R/S). Additionally, SAN's sodium salt of R-ALA is more bioavailable and stable than potassium R-ALA, R-ALA- plus it readily crosses over to cells- which in turn guard the mitochondria (the cells powerhouse factory) from radical damage. The Na-R-ALA manufacturing process is extremely difficult, but fortunately SAN was able to secure a material with a purity in excess of 85%.*

The description on this site is not accurate. It is no longer 86% pure, but it is now only 80% pure. (In fact the new blue, white and red label says "80% purity" right on the front.) The ingredients on the back say: R-lipoic Acid 100mg from 125 mg of Biosolv Enhanced Sodium R-Lipoic Acid (the old formula was "from 117 mg of Biosolv Enhanced Sodium R-Lipoic Acid) The bottle and pills are both a bit bigger than before. It may be a small difference, but if I order something I expect to receive the product that was displayed/advertised. EDITOR'S NOTE: This product has been re-formulated by the manufacturer.
