I followed the instructions exactly, and also used an electric deep fryer to keep the oil temperature stable. The first batter seemed too thick, and, indeed, it was. The veggies turned out coated with a thick, tasteless, spongy outside, soaked in grease.
So I tried again, this time making the batter thinner, and I added some salt and onion powder to give it some flavor. Again, the result was not satisfactory. A lot of the coating fell off the veggies while frying, and what stayed on was still greasy.
I don't plan to buy this again.
January 07, 2018Reviewer: Sherry in California* I tried this for the first time after ordering a month ago. I was scared to try it as so many things I tried turned out horrible. This was fantastic. I did mushrooms, broccoli and onions. Even my husband loved them and he is not a fan of low carb. Can't wait to try them for chicken fried steak and shrimp. Highly recommend!
April 12, 2017Reviewer: Robert in Vermont* I have tried a variety of low-carb coatings such as flour, bread crumbs, etc. Each had their own unique after taste which wasn't ideal -- until I tried LC Foods Tempura Batter. Finally a product that is equal to its high-carb equivalent. Try it and see if you're as pleased as I am!

I was both surprised and delighted that the batter worked so well, especially considering it was low carb! Everything turned out crispy outside and tender-sweet inside! I don't really use it for tempura but I've used it to prepare everything from fried shrimp to chicken fried steak with great success. I'm on my second bag. This goes a long way. A tablespoon or two is all I use for a large chicken fried steak and a single tablespoon for 6 fried shrimp.
Tastes and cooks great. It's one of the best products I've had out of LC Foods.
The only caveat is to be sure to line any plates you use to batter your food. This stuff is very hard to get off plates once it gets wet (steel wool needed!).
